daffodils & forsythia

Daffodil (Narcissus) & Forsythia (Forsythia) | 3.27.24 - 4.4.24

daffodils, just dropped into a vase 3.27.24

purchase date: 3.27.24
purchase location: union square greenmarket
first arranged: 3.27.24

I’ve been meaning to purchase flowers from the local farmer's market at union square, so I took a trip on Wednesday 3.27.24 and was very happy to see local tulips and daffodils along with various flowering branches (quince, pussy willow, curly willow and forsythia). I definitely spent too much and ended up with two distinct groups of flowers.

processing & arranging:
most of the daffodil stems were very short so I only cut off a little of each stem while processing into room-temperature water the morning I bought them. I left the forsythia in a separate bucket till later. I arranged the flowers later in the day starting at around 10pm.

mechanics: chicken wire & tape

I had a bit more of the shorter stems of daffodils and some forsythia leftover so I made a second smaller arrangement with a new vase that will be great for more minimal & wide arrangements

the daffodils dried fairly quickly, but still looked beautiful despite this. the forsythia opened which helped fill in gaps of the dying daffodils.

by april 4th, I decided it was time to discard the arrangement as most of the daffodils were shriveled and the forsythia was fully open. I noticed the daffodils had grown pods below the flowers while discarding.
